Sometimes

Sometimes life is difficult and sometimes you just don't feel like praying. Sometimes past defeats and hurts stare you right in the face. Sometimes you just can't seem to "want to" press in. Sometimes you just don't feel born again or filled with the Spirit of God. Sometimes you just don't feel like listening to worship music or watching another Bible study on DVD. In the words of Beth Moore, "Anyone?!?"

In those "sometime" moments, however, if you'll listen intently, closely, you'll hear a whisper that pushes, nudges you to press in. Sometimes, yes, sometimes we forget that we are in a spiritual battle. The enemy cannot take our salvation because we are sealed by the Holy Spirit. However, we can allow circumstances, feelings, emotions, and even hormones dictate our worship, our response to God. We can also listen more intently to the enemy for he is constantly whispering in our ear, as well.

He tells us that life is difficulty - don't pray (It won't make a difference anyway). The battle over our past defeats and hurts has not been won. Why press in? Born again? Well, are you?!? Filled with the Spirit of God? Are you sure?!? Why listen to that music anyway? Why study the Word?!?

One of my favorite songs is by Chris Tomlin - Our God. Part of the chorus goes something like this: Our God is greater; Our God is stronger; God, you are higher than any other; Our God is healer; awesome in power, our God...our God!

Our God, my friends...He is our God. He is greater than he who is in the world. He is stronger than our enemy. He has sealed you with the Holy Spirit and no one, not one, not any (see Romans 8) can snatch you out of His hand! No one can separate you from the love of Christ!

So how do we respond during those "sometime" moments? Press in! Cry out to Him and He will hear us.  Be filled with the Spirit and put on the whole armor of God (see Ephesians 6:10-18) daily. We are to be like the Apostle Paul - pressing onward and like King David - encouraging ourselves in the Lord. It is all worth it! He is worth it!

February's Scripture Memory Verse

Ok, ladies! It's that time again to post February's scripture memory verse. Please post it here as a comment to my posting. Also, I have a challenge for you! If you haven't told someone your January verse, find someone this coming Sunday to share it. It can be a point of ministry to someone else!

Kim, I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 NIV

Abiding in Him

Hello GracePointe Ladies! If you've been coming to the Women's Sunday School Class, you'll know that we've been in the book of John. We just finished John 15 today, and what an amazing section of scripture it is! In this chapter, Jesus is speaking and talks about abiding in Him! Did you know that one of the translations for "abiding" is to stay home! If we stay home in Him, then we will see the Lord do amazing things in our lives. We'll see the Fruit of the Spirit showing forth through us.

I found this picture on Google when I was preparing the lesson and even made it my Facebook profile picture. Oh, how I want the Fruit to be evident in my life! I know you do, as well! If we abide in Christ, then our attributes, characteristics, emotions, decisions, actions, and words will be His! He will share His very being with us if we'll just stay home in Him and be held by Him. What good news that is!

Please be thinking about which scripture you would like to use for February. If you didn't get in on January, please, please jump in on February. We would love for you to join us.

With much love!

Kim

Changing the Atmosphere

My sister (Kris) called one day towards the end of November asking what I wanted for Christmas. She and her husband were shopping in Birmingham at the time. We do this every year. She asks me, and I, in turn, ask her the same question. I thought for a moment and blurted, "Bath and Body Works." That was the end of that discussion and I didn't think about it again.

Christmas Eve night came around and we were all at their house, wrapping paper flying through the air and my 3-year-old nephew "helping" us all unwrap our gifts. It was finally my turn so Logan asked, "I help you, Aunt Kimmie?!?". Yes, Logan, you may. After pinching the paper into a zillion little pieces to get it off, I saw what it was - yep, you guessed it...the new Bath and Body Works set. The whole set- lotion, spray, shower get. Loved it!

Funny thing about that stuff, though. When you put it on, it fills the room. You can't possibly try putting the lotion on around people without getting some type of response. What's that I smell? or What smells so good? It's inevitable. It demands a response and it changes the atmosphere.

We've been studying the book of John in Sunday school and we just finished Chapter 12 this past Sunday. Part of that chapter is about Mary, the one who brings an expensive alabaster box of nard to anoint Jesus. You see, it was normal in that culture to anoint someone for burial. Although she didn't know that that is what she was doing, we can look back with perfect hindsight and see that's exactly what had occurred. As she began to pour out the nard, the smell filled the air. It literally changed the atmsophere of the room. Judas Iscariot's response is a perfect example. He was offended, annoyed, and irritated with the whole "show".

When true worship occurs, as in this perfect case, it will change the atmosphere. Nothing gets the attention of heaven and hell quicker than a child of God pouring out her heart to Him. The very one who put things into motion in the universe stops, yes, stops, to hear a child of His worship him! Hell quivers and shakes at the very sight!

Worship does one of two things - inspires others or offends them. Lord, may we all inspire others to enter in to His presence. May our very presence change the atmosphere because we've spent time with Jesus!

I've included one of my favorite songs - one that I can't help but think of when reflecting on the topic of worship. It's by CeCe Winans....
